The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. ~ Henry Van Dyke

ASSIGNMENT 10 - My Hometown

.................My hometown, St. Stephen is a small but busy town. The population of St. Stephen is less than 5000 people and it's decling approximately 5% per year. However, it doubles during the summer because of the number of tourists that pass through. St. Stephen shares 2 border crossings with America and they are the busiest border crossings on the east coast. This makes St. Stephen one of the busiest towns on the East coast of Canada. Even though it's a small ghost town in the winter, it's a happening place the rest of the year.

Downtown (there are only two streets and the one you see leads north to larger cities about 150 NE & NW)

The landmass you see beyone the traffic light is USA. It's separated by a river which you could swim across in less than 10 minutes!

You can see the upper part is St. Stephen (CANADA) and the bottom part is Maine (USA). You can see the river isn't wide and the border crossing. There are actually two more border crossing further on down the river.

The dark greek section to the left is USA.

It's quite amazing isn't it. We used to go to America two or three times a day. We'd go shopping, to the movies, to friends houses, etc. Before 911 they didn't even check our ID or passport. But, unfortuantely things have changed.
